Day 4 (maybe my last!) of the chemo Tour

Good day! How are you guys? I am doing ok. My Man and I had a good nights sleep thanks to RN Maggie. She was great! Very quiet. Justin said he even sleep pretty well. I have requested Maggie for tonight too. At the moment, I have having my 5th cycle of chemo. Only one more to go! That means, if all goes well, I will be going home sometime tomorrow! WOOT! WOOT! People!

We got up around 7:30am and kinda laid around. What else do you do? Around 8am I got cleaned up and into today’s PJ’s. My Man went to find a good cup of coffee and some yummy treats to share. Which was a good thing. The bagel I ordered was stale. Ick! I then got tired and slept on and off till about noon. Crazy how tired the meds they give you can make you. It’s not like I do much while I am here!

After I woke up, I talked to my Dad, who is installing a new screened in door on our screened in porch. He is also painting it red! (Thanks Dad!). The Boy was in the background giving him tips and making sure he was doing it right. Nice to know things haven’t change since I am gone. Talked to my Mom and she had been cleaning (THANK YOU) the house. She said all the kids are good but that Turbo my be going broody. She has never done this before. It is usually Poppy. It could be that they are both just hot, the weather has been crazy hot and humid here.

Tomorrow is the first day of school for The Boy. I am sad that I will miss it but happy I should be home when he gets home. I am afraid he is going to have a rude awaking when Nana Pete comes and wakes him up at 6am!

My Man and The Boy have come down for a visit. My Boy and I went for a walk around the floor and met some of the RN’s and staff. Now he is watching a movie on my iPad and My Man is on the computer. House Hunters International is on the TV. All we are missing is Panny, Simon and Timber!! I miss them all. I know that Panny would love sleeping on the bed with me. She would like it when I moved the bed up and down.

Reader’s! I hope you are havig a great day and living life large!!!

Cycle 2 Day 2

I started my frist round of chemo 9:30pm last night. I had go through a 4 hour pre-hydration cycle. I also had to take two huge horse pills of potassium since I was low. Then they gave me a boost of magnesium. Not sure what all that was about but we have gotten taken care of. While I was on my own, I unpacked some things and tried to make my room/bed more homey. The pillows were the buy of the week! Glad we brought those.

I took my sleeping meds while the chemo was going and fell asleep around 10:30pm. I didn’t wake up till 4am mainly because I had to pee so made. Just so happen the tech came in and took my vitals. All good. I was able to fall asleep till about 7am but then the machines started beeping. Thankfully Theo came back to work and got me on his rounds. He is my favorite RN. Last nights RN was late starting the pre-meds and I can’t stand when people are late…I even called! OH MY….. (I later found out from Theo that the clock in my room was 15min fast! Don’t I feel like a tool!?)

Later in the day

When I was first writing this I got really tired and figured I would take a cat nap. I wasn’t sure if I would fall asleep but I did so for about an hour. Theo came in to start me on my premeds and right after he left, my friend Dona C. came in for a visit. She brought me a mini coffee maker! How nice! The coffee here SUCKS! She also brought two packets of hot coco I can make. Yummy. Thank You Dona!

Cycle 2 is done. I start my premeds again at 10:30 and chemo at 11:00pm. I am on two kinds of medications right now, so I am always attached to the hospital christmas pole. Calanet came down for a visit and my parents came a little later. My Mom and I went for a walk Off The Floor! Woot! We went down to the lobby, mom bought some goodies and we went outside for a little walk. It was nice but once we went inside one if my machines started peeping. We got back to the 7th floor and I found Theo down one of the halls “Theo! I am beeping!!” That got a laugh out of him and the RN next to him. He fixed me up and I headed back to my room.

Now I am hanging out with the parents, me and my dad on our laptops and mom reading on her kindle. I’m waiting for my boys to come on down. Can’t wait to see them.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Random Acts…

The rest of my Monday went well. I enjoyed speaking with my clients. They were all very sweet and understanding regarding my situation. I have some great clients!

Timber Wolf
Timber’s trip to spa was great. It is insane that the dog has any fur left on him. The amount that came off was incredible. The grommer said we could have outfit a few hairless Chiwawa’s with all the fur that came off him. He is so soft and smells so fresh now! Plus his mani/pedi looks great. The Grommer kept going on and on about how well-behaved he is. He is such a good boy!!

Clean & Fresh!

Clean & Fresh!

His bandana had skulls on it and matches his name tag. This morning he is going to the Vet for the first time. I hope it goes well. I am pretty sure it will, he is very well-behaved. I am hoping that he has lost a few pounds. When we first adopted him, he weighted about 80 pounds. One of the ladies who works with the rescue, said that he needed to lose a little weight. I will make sure to take some pictures of the visit.

Packing
I have packed all my clothes for trip to the hospital. I have started working on packing my “goodie, don’t go insane” bag. Here are a few things I have packed so far.

You can never have enough TP at the hospital!

I have a few more things to pack and I will try not to freak out like usually do before I go anywhere. I did go to Target and two new pillow cases for our “hospital pillows”.

Radom Act of Kindness

So there I was loading my purchases from Costco in my car, when a lady who was at least 69+ comes over and starts helping me load my car. I was so taken back! I mean she was grabbing some heavy shit. I told her she didn’t need to do that and in a very older southern woman way, she shooshed me and continued to help me load my car. I thanked her when we were done and she took my cart away. I was totally shocked and couldn’t understand why she helped me out. I then saw my reflection in the mirror, I was wearing a baseball hat and totally screamed chemo patient. I decided then and there to be nicer to strangers. I am sure even with being a chemo patient I was stronger than this woman but she helped me out anyway. The least I could do is the same.

Shout Outs:

Nicki W.- You rock girl! I LOVE my necklace and am wearing it right now! And to remember The Girls! How cool is that?!?! Thank you for your kind words and for thinking of me and my family. Miss you.

Phil & Kathy M.- Thank you for my Coke a Cola goodies! The socks look very warm and I am going to have to fight The Boy for the bear!!

Matt’s Chemo Bags

Hey Reader’s! It’s Product Review Time!

My friend Calanit gave me a Matt’s Chemo Bag after I got home from the hospital. Who is Matt and what is in his bag you ask? Well, first of all, Matt is a kick ass son, that is who he is. Check out his website, Matt’s Chemo Bags, to read how he started his company after his mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. As for his bags….They rock!

Matt's Chemo Bag!

Matt’s Chemo Bag!

I know pink is breast cancer’s color but cancer is cancer and all kinds suck! Everything in the bag works for anyone with cancer or who is having to spend time in the hospital for that matter.

Full of Goodies!

Full of Goodies!

I love the socks! At night I put lotion on my foot (yes, foot) and then slip on a sock. The bag came with two pairs. Also in the bag is chap stick, lotion, playing cards, two note books, a cute scarf, moist wipes, nail filer, cute little pocket tissue holders and more!

Boob Pillow

Boob Pillow

I call this my boob pillow. The area where my port is, is right above my right boob and that sucker was sore. The pillow helps when it when in came time to sleep. This will definitely be in my hospital bag next week.

So Soft!

So Soft!

This blanket came in handy a few times last week when I spent the night on the couch due to my problems falling asleep. Another item that will be in my hospital bag.

I would totally recommend getting anyone you know who is dealing with cancer or spending time in the hospital a Matt’s Chemo bag. What a wonderful gift to put a smile on your family or friends face!

Random Stuff & Shout Outs

Random Stuff & Shout Outs

So far today has been a pretty good day. My head and neck were pretty sore when I woke up this morning. After three aspirin, a shower and my toothbrush-ing routine I begun to feel better.

My new best friend

My Crest toothpaste has been killing me. My Mom suggested I try Sensodyne. Her hairdresser used it when he was going through chemo and told me to give it a try. It is defiantly better than the Crest. However, brushing my teeth is still not a high light of my life.

I went surfing on the web after the big shave last night and came across Sara Attali Design on Etsy. Her scarves are gorgeous!! I had to stop myself at buying only two of them. The two above are the ones I got. So pretty!! If you are wear head coverings or know someone who does, I suggest you check her site out.

There are some super nice people out there!

When I was in the hospital, I had to call our pharmacy to make sure they could get and would have my shots in time for me when I was released. I spoke to pharmacist/tech, Deidre, and told her I was in the hospital. She immediately asked me if I was ok. I was like “Oh yeah, I mean I’m having chemo but I am fine”. Anyway, she was so nice and made sure that they could order and would have the shots there waiting for me when I got out. When My Man went to pick them up a few days later, she helped him and asked him how I was doing! How Nice! Then yesterday I went in to pick up a prescription for meds that would help me sleep (THANK GOODNESS) and she was there. I wasn’t sure if it was her, but when I gave her my last name she was like “Shannon? How are you doing??” She was sooo nice. She had even put in a card in the bag with my meds, for me in case My Man picked up the prescription, telling me Hi and that she was hoping I was feeling ok. WOW. People can be so cool.

And then there was none….

It’s done! I got no hair! Last night My Man and I took the plunge into baldness. It was that far of a jump for him but a pretty big one for me. I got a bit teary at one point but pushed through it. It was kinda nice shaving My Man’s head. Anyway, here are a few pictures.

IMG_2589 IMG_2590 IMG_2591 IMG_2595 IMG_2596 IMG_2597 IMG_2601

So what do you think? We chose to go with a slight fuzz because we don’t own a straight razor and well, I will lose the rest of mine soon enough. My Man said he was going to look into getting himself one. Now, it is time for me to work on tying scarves. Rebecca!!!!!

More later….Have a great day!

My Mouth Hurts…

The mouth sores are here! The mouth sores are here! And they are not fun. Yesterday I had to move to the super soft toothbrushes that Jennifer C. sent me a few weeks ago. Thanks again! My gums are pretty sore and the tooth-brush helps. Then there are the sores on the side of my mouth and the top and bottom of my month. Eating has been getting a bit harder. Yesterday morning I made oatmeal thing it would be good since it is soft but it tasted weird. There goes my taste buds. Instead I had a banana. Ugh. This sucks.

Lots of people have told me about toothpaste, mouthwashes and gels that are made for this such thing. One of the two places I went to yesterday was Whole Foods and I asked the sales lady in the Health and Beauty section if they had anything. She showed me PerioWash.

L1030013 L1030019This morning after I brushed my teeth (painful), I took a cap-full of mouthwash and started to swish. Holy Pickles that burned. I swished for 30 seconds and then spit. I then repeated it like it said to. DAMN!! The burn!!!!! After I was done, it was pretty painful for 2 minutes but after that my mouth felt pretty good.  Now let’s see how long it will last.

Hair Update: Today is Day 13 of the Chemo Game and I still have may hair. However, this morning a lot more the normal came out.

My poor hair!

My poor hair!

I texted the picture to My Man and I think tonight is the night. I am going bald. I plan on pulling my hair back into a pony-tail and braid it. My Man will then cut off the pony-tail and then the clippers will come out. I plan on taking pictures of the process but I am not sure if I will post a bald picture. Not sure if I am ready yet but I will post some with scarves.

Ok Readers! Time to find something soft to eat for lunch. Have great day!!
