A new chicken! Oh wait, it’s just The Boy.

My Mom, Dad, The Boy and I all drove up to northern Georgia to pick up Zazzles and Terry Pete. They are so cute! Their cones are so tiny and not even that red yet. The owners of the farm where super nice. Melissa works the farm full-time and her husband helps on the weekends. If we ever get more hens, I am going back to them.

Turbo and Poppy are very interested in the new girls. I am not to sure that they are happy with their new roommates. There has been a lot of chatter in the run this afternoon. Poppy REALLY wants to get into their little run and Turbo wants to eat their food. Which is weird, since she has the same food in her feeder!

I think I will keep Zazzles and Terry Pete in their little coop/run for a few days. I need to make sure that Poppy and Turbo get use to them and accept them. No hen pecking at The Majestic allowed!

They are coming!!!!

Happy Friday Reader’s!

How are we this Friday? I am doing well. After the boys got off to work and school, I got ready and went to the gym to work out with SK. I signed up for a 10,000 steps per day challenge that Lifetime Fitness and Fitbit are doing. It started on Sunday and so far I have been able to achieve my 10,000 steps per day. The challenge is for 30 days. I sure hope I can make it!

The Girls are almost here!

Reader’s, tomorrow we will be driving up to Glass Pound Farm to pick up our two new hens! I am so excited! I really hope that they are sweet and get along with Turbo and Poppy. Fingers are crossed! Here is a reminder of the type of hens we are getting.

Lens Cup

Lens Cup

Yesterday I got a box in the mail from Amazon. I didn’t remember ordering anything so I was a bit stumped. Inside was a lens cup and that was all. No receipt. No card. I did not order the cup. My Man did not order it. I have NO idea who ordered it. But I really like it!! So whoever gave it to me, thank you! And please let me know who you are.

Sometimes I Forget…

This morning I was in Target (looking so fresh in my workout clothes…NOT) buying Easter candy and treats for the two baskets I am making. A young man who worked there asked me if my foot was ok. I guess I was limping more than usual. I was like no, not really getting it. He said it looked like I hurt it and then I remembered! I told him not to worry, it wasn’t real (he took that like a pro). Yeah, I forgot for a second. I know, how can you forget something like not having a real left foot!  Pickles!

Shout Out!

Uncle Roone- My uncle started his first chemo treatment this weekend up in Indianapolis, In. So far he said he had not gotten sick yet and I sure hope he doesn’t. Fingers are crossed!

Oh Pollen….How I hate you…..

Good Day Readers!

Spring has sprung and so have my sinus headaches! Ugh. I am a mess. The pressure around my nose and eyes is killing me.  It poured down rain yesterday. You would think that the rain would have helped but it didn’t. As soon as the rain washed it away, more came.

So gross.

Turbo…She is a mess

Poor Turbo! On Saturday I notice she had some black goo on her face, comb and neck. I was able to touch it and it is sticky. I tried to wipe it off with a wet wash cloth but it would not come off. She does not seem to be in pain but it looks terrible and I would love to help her get rid of it.

Panny, Simon and Timber

The three fur kids inside Hotel Yorba are all doing well. Timber has been going into work with me. He loves to ride in the car and go on walks at the office. His official position at the office is guard dog. He does a good job. Whenever anyone knocks on the door, Timber lets the person behind the door know that there will be no messing with us inside.

Don't mind me...

Panny and Simon are doing well. They can’t wait till the pollen is all gone so they can spend more time out on the screened in porch.

What?

GRRRRR.....

GRRRRR…..

This morning when I went out to let The Girls out of their coop I noticed that something had dug in my spinach and arugula planter. What? I am guessing that it is a chipmunk or squirrel eating up my lettuces. I am not sure how to stop it from happening again. Ideas?

And then there is my hair…

My hair is a mess. The color still has the red tint to it. I have been washing it hoping it will fade. Over the last few days it has gotten curler and curler. I have no idea what is going on with it. I am just waiting and waiting and waiting for it to grow out. Pickles.

The Boy is on Spring Break this week. He is going to camp at LifeTime and is having a great time. Tomorrow night we are heading to a Braves game. My Man was able to get free tickets for his companies box at Turner Field. They will be playing the Mets. Should be a fun time!

Are you on your Spring Break? Did you go anywhere? Or have a Staycation?

Suck it Up and Deal With it…..

Reader’s! How the heck are you? I know it has been awhile since I last updated y’all on what is going on here at My Hotel Yorba. Sorry about that. Going back to work has really cut into my blog time… and my sleep time…and my relaxing time. Crazy how a job can do that!

New Additions!!

No, I am not pregnant! As if!!??!  No, instead we have ordered two hens to add our flock and The Majestic!!  After some research I came across a farm in Cleveland, GA, called Glass Pond Farm. I got in contact with them and found out that they were about to have several hens hatching four or five different breeds of chicks. I looked up the different ones that they were offering and picked one Black Astralorpe and one Barred Rock Hen. Both breeds are good in cold winter, brown egg layers, friendly and most important docile. We don’t want to upset our head hen Turbo. The girls should be coop/run ready around mid April.

Glass Pond Farms look like a super cool farm. They breed, raise and sell ducks, turkeys, chickens and rabbits! They also offer a CSA. It is too bad that they aren’t closer to us. I would love to partake in it. Once we pick up our two girls, we will revile their names. Yes, we already picked them out. I even have a third name in my back pocket just in case!

A Death

There was a death a few weeks ago at My Hotel Yorba. My Dyson vacuum up and died on me while I was in the middle of vacuuming up a ton of Simon/Panny/Timber hair that had accumulated on the stairs heading down to the basement. I couldn’t believe it! I was not about to spend the $$$$ on another Dyson (this was my 2nd one). I do love the vacuum but right now, I just didn’t want to do it. So I looked up the best pet vacuums on the Consumer Reports website and ended up buying the Hoover Wind Tunnel Pet. It looks a lot like the Dyson Pet but nowhere near the cost of one.

New Vacuum Cleaner

New Vacuum Cleaner

So far I am giving it a B+. Maybe I am not used to it yet but there are a few issues. The cord is not as long as the Dyson. However, it does have button you push and the cord zooms back in place! Love that! The “wand” isn’t as long as they Dyson and you have to put three pieces together to get it all set up. Like the Dyson it is bag less. However when I went to empty it, half of the fur would not come out, even when I stuck my hand up into it. Gross. But I was able to get it with free shipping and since I was able to use my points from my AMEX card on Amazon, and got it for less than $100, I will suck it up and deal with it.

BTW….Suck it up and Deal With it, is a motto here at My Hotel Yorba. I love it when I hear My Man complain about something and The Boy say’s ” Well Dad do what mom tells me to do. Suck it up and deal with it.”   Nice. :)

Spring Cleaning for The Majestic

IMG_3758

Good Day Reader’s!

Are you as happy as I am that it is Saturday Caturday? I hope so! It was nice to sleep in a bit. I was up at 8am to go let The Girls out of their coop. There have been coyote sighting around the neighborhood the last few weeks and I have been worrying about them. I have been making sure to lock them up nice and tight at night.

Way to go Turbo!

Way to go Turbo!

To say that they were ready to come out was an understatement. As Timber and I walked up to The Majestic, you could hear them chattering. Yesterday when I went to check for eggs I found two!! Turbo is now laying again. I had been asking her when she was going get off her butt and get back to work. I guess she just likes to make me wait. Another good thing is that she too is now laying in the nesting boxes. So proud of my Girls. It is time for me to do a little early spring cleaning in The Majestic. I am going to get more straw and sand for them. Since they like the sleep inside the nesting boxes, they are going to need to be freshened up more than usual.

My Man, hard a work.

My Man, hard a work.

After we grabbed some lunch at Antico Pizza, we headed to Lowes and I bought supplies for the coop/run. My Man was nice enough to hang a sign my mother-in-law had sent me a few years ago. It was in our kitchen but this morning I took at look at it thought it needed to be hung on the Majestic.

The Boy and I then got to work spreading the straw around the run and cleaning out the coop. The girls went crazy with all the new straw in the run. I think they will be busy all day scratching away at it.

Did I mention how nice it outside today? It is in the 60’s and the sun is out. I may even open the screened in porch for the cats so they can enjoy the birds and the smell of spring. I hope you are all having a wonderful Saturday. Be Good! Be Safe!

Ice, Ice, Baby….

Reader’s!

georgia_radarThere be ice out there! I just came in from opening The Majestic to let the girls out. When I looked outside I thought it had been snowing. Once Timber and I made it outside I realized that it wasn’t snow, it was hail that has accumulated on the ground! Right now it is very crunchy to walk on and I was able to make it up to the coop with no problem. Timber was so excited! You can see the ice already accumulating on the trees and the branches are starting to hang low. The lock on The Majestic was iced over but I was able to crack it and get inside. The girls came out and didn’t know what to think! I am sure the hail bouncing off the tin roof of the coop was freaking them out. Sounds a little different from rain.

Timber and I headed out a few hours later to take some pictures. It is defiantly icy out there! I don’t know if I will be heading out there again for a while. The temperature is dropping and actual snow should start falling around 6pm.

The girls were very chatty when I went back to check on them. The run is staying pretty dry so I think they will be ok today. Panny is enjoying looking out the window and wishing she could check the ice/snow out.

School has been cancelled for tomorrow. We are bunkered in and won’t be heading out today. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Don’t tell Panny or Simon but we are running out of cat food!!

Snow in the ATL!

Good Day Reader’s!

It is snowing in the ATL! Timber and I went outside to check it out. He loved it! I thought it was just ok. It has been snowing now for over an hour and it has not let up. Not really looking forward to driving down my driveway to go pick up The Boy from the bus stop.

IMG_3550 IMG_3549 IMG_3548 IMG_3547 IMG_3542 IMG_3543A few of our friends came in town last weekend. It was so nice to see them. It has been about a year since we were all together. We all met at our friends house and watched poor Michigan State lose in basketball. Booo!!! But my #2 team, The Wichita State, won! My friend Jaime, who is a photographer in Wichita, photographs the team all the time. Last year she traveled with the team during March Madness and I saw her on TV. Anyway, she sent me a cool shirt!! Woot! Woot! How nice!  She thought I should represent my #2 team. Thank you Jaime!

I never thought the day would come but now only is Poppy back to laying eggs, she is doing it in the nesting boxes! Who would have thought!! Yes, that is poop in the boxes. Not only in Poppy laying there, she and Turbo are sleeping in them. The coop is huge. TONS of space for two hens. And my two Girls shove themselves into one little box (at the same time).

Poppy is laying the boxes! Yeah Poppy!
