It was a lovely weekend…

Reader’s!

How was your weekend? Mine was pretty good. The weather was so nice. On Saturday I went to Lowes and got some tomato plants, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, okra and peppers to plant in the garden.

Yes, I have three different tomato “cages” that I am using. I have been collecting them over the past few years. I just got the ones with the bamboo sticks. This summer I will see which ones work out best.

I also cleaned out the nesting boxes in the coop. I got rid of all the used hay, sprayed them down with water and then let them dry in the sun. Then I let Zazzles and Terrance Peterson out into the main run. The meeting of the young hens and older hen’s went ok. Poppy and Turbo pecked at them a little bit. They were mainly interested in eating and drinking Zazzles and Terrance Peterson’s food and water. Today Aidan and I once again let them out again and I was able to hold Zazzles and Terrance Peterson for a bit. They are so cute! I then put them both on the highest roosting bar to try out.

Hi!

Hi!

They did great! They stayed up there for about 10 minutes or so. Then they both flew off and landed on Poppy and Turbo. They didn’t like that too much. I plan on letting them mix together over the next few days. Hopefully by this weekend they will have gotten use to each other and will be ready to live together.

On Sunday we spent the day with friends and had a wonderful time and dinner. Although I have a lot on my mind, I had a wonderful weekend. I have a wonderful family and wonderful friends. I want to thank you all for your prayers and good vibes. They really mean a lot to me and my family.

Today I filled out an application for co-pay assistance for my medication. The pills cost around $8,500.00 a month. My deductible is around $1,500.00. The special pharmacy suggested we fill out the application so we did. After My Man and I talked about it we decided that if we do get the assistance, we would donate the money we saved to the Winship Cancer Institute. There are a lot of people out there who need co-pay assistance more than we do, so it is the least we can do. Drugs can be $$$!

Oh Pollen….How I hate you…..

Good Day Readers!

Spring has sprung and so have my sinus headaches! Ugh. I am a mess. The pressure around my nose and eyes is killing me.  It poured down rain yesterday. You would think that the rain would have helped but it didn’t. As soon as the rain washed it away, more came.

So gross.

Turbo…She is a mess

Poor Turbo! On Saturday I notice she had some black goo on her face, comb and neck. I was able to touch it and it is sticky. I tried to wipe it off with a wet wash cloth but it would not come off. She does not seem to be in pain but it looks terrible and I would love to help her get rid of it.

Panny, Simon and Timber

The three fur kids inside Hotel Yorba are all doing well. Timber has been going into work with me. He loves to ride in the car and go on walks at the office. His official position at the office is guard dog. He does a good job. Whenever anyone knocks on the door, Timber lets the person behind the door know that there will be no messing with us inside.

Panny and Simon are doing well. They can’t wait till the pollen is all gone so they can spend more time out on the screened in porch.

What?

GRRRRR.....

GRRRRR…..

This morning when I went out to let The Girls out of their coop I noticed that something had dug in my spinach and arugula planter. What? I am guessing that it is a chipmunk or squirrel eating up my lettuces. I am not sure how to stop it from happening again. Ideas?

And then there is my hair…

My hair is a mess. The color still has the red tint to it. I have been washing it hoping it will fade. Over the last few days it has gotten curler and curler. I have no idea what is going on with it. I am just waiting and waiting and waiting for it to grow out. Pickles.

The Boy is on Spring Break this week. He is going to camp at LifeTime and is having a great time. Tomorrow night we are heading to a Braves game. My Man was able to get free tickets for his companies box at Turner Field. They will be playing the Mets. Should be a fun time!

Are you on your Spring Break? Did you go anywhere? Or have a Staycation?

Suck it Up and Deal With it…..

Reader’s! How the heck are you? I know it has been awhile since I last updated y’all on what is going on here at My Hotel Yorba. Sorry about that. Going back to work has really cut into my blog time… and my sleep time…and my relaxing time. Crazy how a job can do that!

New Additions!!

No, I am not pregnant! As if!!??!  No, instead we have ordered two hens to add our flock and The Majestic!!  After some research I came across a farm in Cleveland, GA, called Glass Pond Farm. I got in contact with them and found out that they were about to have several hens hatching four or five different breeds of chicks. I looked up the different ones that they were offering and picked one Black Astralorpe and one Barred Rock Hen. Both breeds are good in cold winter, brown egg layers, friendly and most important docile. We don’t want to upset our head hen Turbo. The girls should be coop/run ready around mid April.

Glass Pond Farms look like a super cool farm. They breed, raise and sell ducks, turkeys, chickens and rabbits! They also offer a CSA. It is too bad that they aren’t closer to us. I would love to partake in it. Once we pick up our two girls, we will revile their names. Yes, we already picked them out. I even have a third name in my back pocket just in case!

A Death

There was a death a few weeks ago at My Hotel Yorba. My Dyson vacuum up and died on me while I was in the middle of vacuuming up a ton of Simon/Panny/Timber hair that had accumulated on the stairs heading down to the basement. I couldn’t believe it! I was not about to spend the $$$$ on another Dyson (this was my 2nd one). I do love the vacuum but right now, I just didn’t want to do it. So I looked up the best pet vacuums on the Consumer Reports website and ended up buying the Hoover Wind Tunnel Pet. It looks a lot like the Dyson Pet but nowhere near the cost of one.

So far I am giving it a B+. Maybe I am not used to it yet but there are a few issues. The cord is not as long as the Dyson. However, it does have button you push and the cord zooms back in place! Love that! The “wand” isn’t as long as they Dyson and you have to put three pieces together to get it all set up. Like the Dyson it is bag less. However when I went to empty it, half of the fur would not come out, even when I stuck my hand up into it. Gross. But I was able to get it with free shipping and since I was able to use my points from my AMEX card on Amazon, and got it for less than $100, I will suck it up and deal with it.

BTW….Suck it up and Deal With it, is a motto here at My Hotel Yorba. I love it when I hear My Man complain about something and The Boy say’s ” Well Dad do what mom tells me to do. Suck it up and deal with it.”   Nice. :)

Spring Cleaning for The Majestic

Good Day Reader’s!

Are you as happy as I am that it is Saturday Caturday? I hope so! It was nice to sleep in a bit. I was up at 8am to go let The Girls out of their coop. There have been coyote sighting around the neighborhood the last few weeks and I have been worrying about them. I have been making sure to lock them up nice and tight at night.

Way to go Turbo!

Way to go Turbo!

To say that they were ready to come out was an understatement. As Timber and I walked up to The Majestic, you could hear them chattering. Yesterday when I went to check for eggs I found two!! Turbo is now laying again. I had been asking her when she was going get off her butt and get back to work. I guess she just likes to make me wait. Another good thing is that she too is now laying in the nesting boxes. So proud of my Girls. It is time for me to do a little early spring cleaning in The Majestic. I am going to get more straw and sand for them. Since they like the sleep inside the nesting boxes, they are going to need to be freshened up more than usual.

My Man, hard a work.

My Man, hard a work.

After we grabbed some lunch at Antico Pizza, we headed to Lowes and I bought supplies for the coop/run. My Man was nice enough to hang a sign my mother-in-law had sent me a few years ago. It was in our kitchen but this morning I took at look at it thought it needed to be hung on the Majestic.

The Boy and I then got to work spreading the straw around the run and cleaning out the coop. The girls went crazy with all the new straw in the run. I think they will be busy all day scratching away at it.

Did I mention how nice it outside today? It is in the 60’s and the sun is out. I may even open the screened in porch for the cats so they can enjoy the birds and the smell of spring. I hope you are all having a wonderful Saturday. Be Good! Be Safe!

Done! Done! Done!

Hey Reader’s!

Yummy Iron Horse!

Yummy Iron Horse!

So I am done! Done! Done! Done! Tuesday was my last radiation treatment. I went in and the techs were so excited for me. After I got zapped, I got two big hugs from them. I thanked them for being so nice to me, for not minding when I came straight from the gym (stinky) and for being so kind to The Boy. I then went and thanked the ladies at the front desk. They had been so nice to me. I then got to ring the last treatment bell. Everyone clapped and cheered for me. I had to hold back tears but when I got in my car, I just cried. I called My Man and left a voice mail telling him I was all done and that I was crying ( I think he had figured that one out) and did he want anything from Costco.  I guess I was just so happy to be done with it all. It was like the world had been lifted from my shoulders and I could not stop the tears.

That night My Man and I celebrated with a bottle of Iron Horse. And on Wednesday, I caught a cold. I mean really?? One day off radiation and I get sick? That is why I did not post anything last night. I went back to work on Wednesday but by the evening I felt like shit. My Man even alluded to (in the nicest way possible) that I in fact I looked like shit! I was in bed and asleep by 8:30pm.

Nose bleed

Nose bleed

As I am writing this, my nose is bleeding. Second one in two days. UGH! I think it is all due to the crazy weather we have been having. One day it is 8, three days later 62 and now back to the 30’s and 40’s. My sinus’ are not happy!

The Majestic

Last week The Girls had the roof on the run extended and they are loving it. I am too. No more ruined food and wet, soggy run when it rains.

"I Love it!"

“I Love it!”

I have been thinking about what kind of chickens I will get soon. I am looking for two girls who are near the size of Turbo and Poppy and who are not too aggressive. I do not want to make Turbo mad, she is the head hen and needs to stay that way. I want a good layer and non broody hen.
